Rooms That Totally Nail The Layering Look

Simply put, you’re either a fan of hide rugs or you’re not. Personally, I love adding layers and layers of texture in a space and a “hide” rug on a natural fiber rug such as seagrass, sisal, or a chunky jute is a beautiful way to add a touch of sophistication in any room. I’ve rounded up a few inspirations that totally nail this popular, on-trend look.

Styling Tips

So, there really isn’t a hard fast rule when it comes to layering, but at least one layer should be fairly neutral. If there is a lot of pattern or movement on the “hide”, go for a rug that is solid like a natural jute, or a rug that has a consistent color pattern throughout to avoid creating a hot mess.

Then, again if you decide you want to step out of your comfort zone and play with a pattern on both, be sure the colors complement each other.

Each “hide” is unique, meaning one-of-a-kind, which makes the placement versatile as well. You can center it straight on top of the natural fiber rug or play with angling it on a corner. I always seem to gravitate toward placing a hide under the coffee table, somewhat centered on the rug for a polished look. I have also used a beautiful cowhide layered on top of carpet in a bedroom, angled from the corner of the bed, to add another layer of interest and texture.

These beauties come in all shapes, sizes, and colors which make them ideal for creating a space. They are also thin which doesn’t add any bulkiness to the layer, especially if you are placing furniture on top.

My Take-Away

When it relates to the elements and principles of design (Design 101), layering adds another element of texture. Layering with a hide brings a room to life and gives it that unexpected WOW factor. There is no hard, fast right or wrong.  I always say at the end of the day it is your home so do what feels the best for you and surround yourself with the things that you love.

Until next time ~
